Ashe Activity Center is a state-of-the-art fitness center for use by athletes, students and the community alike. The $3 million, 40,000 square-foot center was completed in 2000 and houses a cardio-fitness room, three full-size basketball courts, an indoor track, locker rooms, and a training room. As the vast majority of Covenant students participate in intramural sports, the courts in Ashe are used heavily for intramural competition.
The cardio-fitness room contains state-of-the-art equipment manufactured by Cybex© and Precor©, including treadmills, recumbent bicycles, vertical bicycles, stairsteppers, and individual machines for specialized muscle groups.
The center was dedicated on January 24, 2000.
COVENANT COLLEGE ASHE ACTIVITY/BARNES PHYSICAL EDUCATION CENTER POLICIES AND PROCEDURES
The following amended policies and procedures for Covenant College’s Ashe Activity/Barnes Physical Education Center will take effect on July 31, 2019.
The Ashe Activity/Barnes Physical Education Center is open to students, staff, and family members of college employees aged 16 and up during prescribed hours. Local residents aged 16 and over may also purchase an annual Community Guest Card granting use of the center during restricted hours.   Â
A valid Scotscard (issued to students and employees of the college), a Scots Family Card (issued to family members of employees aged 16 or over), or a Community Guest Card is required to gain access. These access cards granting gym access may be obtained from the Safety and Security office located in Carter Hall. Family members of college employees under age 16 must be accompanied by a Scotscard holding adult when visiting the Ashe/Barnes Activity Center.
During the academic year the normal Ashe Activity/Barnes Physical Education Center hours for students, staff, and family members are from 6 am – 11:30 pm Monday through Friday. Each Saturday, the center is open from 8 am - 10 pm. These hours are adjusted during school breaks. The center is always closed on Sundays.Â
Also, during the academic year priority for use of equipment and facilities will continue to be given to classes in session.
During the summer months, the center is open from 7 am - 7 pm Monday through Friday and closed each Saturday and Sunday. Â
Exact dates and times are posted on the college’s athletic website. Â
Additionally, local residents age 16 and older may purchase a Community Guest Card for $100 per calendar year. (Alumni may purchase a Community Guest Card for $60 per calendar year.) During the academic year, this grants access to the Ashe Activity/Barnes Physical Education Center from 6 am – 4 pm, Monday through Friday, and from 8 am - 4 pm on Saturday. (During the summer months, the center is closed each Saturday.) After 4 pm each day, the gym is reserved for students and staff. When using the Ashe Activity Center, the Community Guest Card must be carried at all times. Residents are asked to not loan their card to any other person. Local residents younger than 16 years of age are not allowed access to the Ashe Activity/Barnes Physical Education Center.
Community Guest Cards are available for purchase year round. To obtain a Community Guest Card, please first access and complete an application and liability waiver at https://athletics.covenant.edu/facilities. Second, please stop by the college’s office of Safety and Security on Mondays and Tuesdays from 1 pm to 4 pm to have a photo ID made and to make payment. The office of Safety and Security is located in Carter Hall, Room # 29. Payment may be made by exact cash or check only.
