LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Lady Scots on Tuesday night played an intense match against Cumberland University that left spectators on the edge of their seat.  Covenant lost the first set, but regrouped to defeat their opponents 3-1 (17-25, 25-23, 25-23, 25-23).  The ladies were on fire on the net, earning a total of 20 blocks and throwing off Cumberland's rhythm.

The first set got off to a rocky start.  After a minor delay for a rules interpretation, the visiting Lady Bulldogs jumped out to a good start and defeated Covenant in game one 25-17.  The teams then switched sides to try again, and that's when Covenant's comeback began.

The ladies took the court determined to win.  Although the pattern for the next three games involved Cumberland taking the lead by a few points, the ladies always rallied together to catch up.  This continued until 21-21 of the second game, before the Lady Scots took the lead and earned the win.

The third set was similar, but this time the ladies maintained the lead most of the game.

The final set was a nail biter as Covenant attempted to win their third game and keep from playing a fifth.  Their chances looked grim as they quickly fell behind 8-1, but the ladies could not be put down so easily, coming back to dwindle the deficit to 14-11.  After falling behind further, this time 17-11, the Lady Scots went on to score 5 unanswered points and eventually tie the score at 21.  After some stressful back and forth rallies, they eventually scored their last point earning the win 25-23.

The ladies worked together for the win with Erica Adams (13), Emily Stewart (10), and Jessie Jakes (9), contributing to the team's kills.  Their defense held together with every member of the team earning a dig.  The front line would not allow much past the net, racking up an amazing 20 blocks.

Covenant's record is now 10-4 and 3-1 in the Great South.  The Lady Scots will play against Salem College and Maryville College this Saturday to continue their successful season.
