LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- Coming off a tough, five-set defeat at the hands of Maryville on Tuesday, Covenant came out firing on all cylinders Thursday night against visiting Sewanee. The Lady Scots led for almost the entirety of the match as they won 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-14).
Covenant (3-2) was led offensively by Chelsea Van Dyk's 12 kills, to go along with her one solo block and four block assists. Jessica Chittenden and Cora Schroeder each had seven kills, while Hannah Rogers chipped in with six kills and 11 digs. Stephanie Kirkpatrick accumulated 30 assists and seven digs. Estes Carlson tallied 21 digs to lead the Lady Scots in that category.
The first set belonged to Covenant as the Lady Scots quickly took a 5-0 lead and did not look back after. The second set followed the same pattern as Covenant jumped out to a quick lead and cruised to the game win. In the third set, the Lady Scots took a commanding 13-5 lead, thanks to a Schroeder kill, and led by as many as 14 points late in the set.
Jamie Sue Wilson led Sewanee (3-2) with sseven kills and she also recorded 10 digs. Jamie Kosman had 14 digs for the Tigers, while Rachel Schuman added 17 assists.
Covenant will hit the road this weekend for a pair of matches on Saturday in LaGrange, Ga. The lady Scots will take on Talladega College at 3:00 p.m. before playing GSAC foe LaGrange at 5:00 p.m.
