LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's soccer team continued USA South play on Wednesday night by hosting rival Maryville at Scotland Yard. The visiting Scots controlled much of the match and were able to come away with a 3-0 victory.
Alexis Franco put Maryville (6-2-1, 4-1 USA South) ahead for good with her second goal of the year in the 21st minute. In the second half, Maryville would add two more scores. Sierra Siegel made it 2-0 in the 55th minute and Ashley Howarth capped the scoring in the 68th minute, off an assist from Taylor Emerson.
Covenant (5-7, 3-2 USA South) took two shots on goal, one from Ruth Terry and another off the foot of Anna Porch, but Maryville keeper Mandy Marshall made saves on both. Covenant took nine shots in the contest led by Terry's three.
Lucy Johnson and Hannah Bales split time at the net for Covenant. Johnson made three saves in the first half before Bales accumulated six in the second period.
Covenant will hit the road for its next conference match on Saturday at LaGrange. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m.
