Women's Basketball Preview: Scots Hosting Oglethorpe on Saturday

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- After 11 days between contests, the Covenant women's basketball team will be back in action on Saturday when they host Oglethorpe in non-conference play. Tip-off is set for 2 p.m. at Barnes Physical Education Center.

About Oglethorpe (2-5, 1-0 Southern Athletic Association):

Oglethorpe is 2-5 on the year and 1-0 in conference play... The Stormy Petrels are coming off an 82-76 SAA win over Berry on Thursday night… In that win, McKenzie Fortson led four Oglethorpe players in double figures with 19 points while Ciaira Hughes recorded a double-double with 16 points and 12 rebounds… Oglethorpe's other win this season came against Wesleyan (Ga.) 57-50… Kyana Jenkins is third in the SAA in field goal percentage at 54.2… As a team, averaging 58.9 points and shooting just 34.8 percent from the field, 24 percent from 3-point land, and 58.9 percent at the free throw line… Oglethorpe is allowing opponents to shoot 41.2 percent from the floor while surrendering 66.4 points per contest.

Aaron Nester is in his third year at the helm of the Stormy Petrel program. Nester is 15-43 overall at Oglethorpe.

Covenant Update: 3-2 overall, 0-0 USA South

This will be the second straight game against Oglethorpe for the Scots as they defeated the Stormy Petrels 65-52 on Nov. 26 in Atlanta… In the win, Kiaira Cooper just missed a double-double with 16 points and nine rebounds… Morgan Woodward and Aleigha Williams each had 12 points while Jessie Blankenship tallied 10… Covenant made a season-high 18 free throws in the contest (attempted 29)… The Scots have an average margin of victory of 15.3 points and are limiting teams to 50.7 points per game in their three victories… Aleigha Williams is 49th in the country (4th in USA South) in 3-point percentage at 47.6… Coming into this week, Covenant ranked 66th in Division III in field goal percentage defense at 33.5 percent and 43rd in 3-point percentage defense at 21.3 percent.

Sarah Harris is in her first year as the head coach of the Scots and is 3-2. She is in her fifth year overall of being a head coach after a four-year stint at Grove City from 2006-10.
