EMORY, Va. – After being shutout in three straight matches to start the season, the Covenant women's soccer team seems to have put their offensive woes behind them. On the day after their 2-1 victory over Emory & Henry, the Lady Scots found the back of the net on five occasions as they defeated Marymount 5-2.
With their second victory in as many days, Covenant is now 2-3, while the loss keeps Marymount winless at 0-3-1.
Anna Porch, who scored two goals against Emory & Henry on Friday, once again provided most of the offensive punch for Covenant. She recorded the first hat trick of her career while adding an assist for good measure. Bethany Logan added two goals and an assist of her own, while Anne Charlotte Strawbridge chipped in two assists in the route.
The first thirty minutes of the first half were eventful ones, as both teams combined for four scores during that time period. Porch kicked off the scoring with an unassisted goal in the 13th. Marymount tied it just three minutes later when Erin Harris slipped one past Covenant's keeper Lucy Johnson from the top of the box in the 17th minute.
Porch struck again in the 19th minute, with Strawbridge assisting, making it 2-1.
Strawbridge got her second assist of the night 10 minutes later, setting up Logan's score in the 29th minute.
In the second half, with Logan feeding her, Porch completed the hat trick in the 47th minute by getting a shot past Saints goalkeeper Holly Wegner. Porch would return the favor by assisting on Logan's second goal of the night, when Logan scored in the 79th minute to make it 5-1.
Marymount's Chloe McAuliffe scored in the 84th minute to make it 5-2 and round out the scoring.
Johnson played the entire match, recording five saves to nail down the win. Wegner also stopped five shots in the losing effort, as Covenant outshot Marymount 21-12.
The Lady Scots will try to make it three in a row when they host Berry on Wednesday at 7 p.m. in Lookout Mountain.
