DANVILLE, Va. -- Three players scored in double figures to lead Averett past the Covenant women's basketball team 72-45 on in USA South play on Saturday evening at the Grant Center in Danville.
Covenant goes to 0-10 on the year and 0-2 inside the USA South. Averett improves to 3-5 overall and 2-1 in conference action.
Morgan Woodward led Covenant with 15 points to go with five rebounds. Abbey Bailey added nine points, all on 3-pointers, and seven rebounds and Rachel Price tallied five rebounds, two steals and four points in the loss.
Averett connected on 17-of-35 from the field in the first half to build a 44-16 lead and the host Cougars never looked back. Averett ended the game shooting 39.7 percent (27-of-68) from the field with six 3-pointers.
Brianna Taylor led the Cougars with 15 points to go along with four assists. Jonna Koski registered a double-double with 11 points and 10 rebounds, while Samm Chandler also had a double-double of 10 points and a game-high 12 rebounds.
Covenant went 14-of-51 from the field (27.5 percent) with six 3-pointers. Averett held a 47-38 rebound advantage.
The Scots will look to bounce back next Friday on the road against USA South foe Methodist. Tip-off in Fayetteville, North Carolina, is set for 7:30 p.m.
