CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- Ruth Terry's free kick from the top of the box in the 54th minute found the back of the net and that was the difference in the Covenant women's soccer team's 1-0 victory over North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday night at Chattanooga Christian School.
The match was moved to CCS after heavy rains doused Scotland Yard on Friday night and Saturday morning pushing the Homecoming match off the Mountain.
The victory puts Covenant at 6-4 overall and 4-3 in the USA South. N.C. Wesleyan drops to 3-8-1 on the year and 1-6 in league play.
Terry's goal was her fourth of the year, but was setup by a misplay by N.C. Wesleyan keeper Vanessa Batchelor. Batchelor came out to field a deflected ball, but came out of the 18-yard box and touched the ball with her hands resulting in a foul. Terry setup the free kick just a yard outside the box and was able to get her shot past a diving Batchelor.
N.C. Wesleyan held an 11-6 shot advantage, but Covenant keeper Rachel Lemay stood tall as she made four saves on the evening. Batchelor made two for the visiting Battling Bishops.
Covenant made it to halftime in a scoreless tie despite being outshot 7-1. N.C. Wesleyan played nearly the whole match down a player as Ella Burkhart was carded twice in the first half and was sent off.
Allie Vannoy and Terry each took two shots for the Lady Scots.
