Scots Dominate Overtime to Defeat Agnes Scott on Senior Day

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant women's basketball team outscored visiting Agnes Scott 16-6 in the overtime period to pick up an 82-72 victory on Senior Day on Saturday afternoon inside Barnes PE Center.

Before the game, senior Morgan Woodward and Kiersten Nielsen were recognized for their careers. Woodward had a career day as she registered her first double-double, while flirting with a triple-double, with 15 points, 11 rebounds and seven assists. Nielsen started and knocked down a 3-pointer to go with two rebounds.

Covenant trailed 30-29 at halftime after Soles and Williams accounted for 23 of Covenant's points. The Scots went on an 8-2 run to start the second half to take a 37-32 lead after a Woodward layup with 17:20 remaining. Agnes Scott ultimately rallied and tied the score at 66 after a Brittany Howard free throw with 2.1 seconds left in regulation. Howard missed the second free throw and the Scots were unable to get a shot off before time expired.

In the overtime session, Bell took over as she scored seven points in the period. Covenant scored first on a pair of free throws by Liz Dougherty and would go ahead 70-66 after a Dougherty jumper. Bell converted a conventional three-point play with 2:54 left giving the Scots a 75-67 lead. Made free throws down the stretch iced the game for Covenant.
