ATLANTA, Ga. -- No. 14 regionally ranked Oglethorpe defeated the Covenant men's tennis team 8-1 on Tuesday evening at the Downing Howell Courts in Atlanta.
The loss is the second straight for the Scots as they fall to 5-4 overall this season. Oglethorpe goes to 4-5 on the year.
Oglethorpe took all three singles matches, but had to work for the sweep. Michael O'Brien and Dan Madden took No. 2 Oglethorpe duo of Briton Richardson and Craig Borne into extra points before falling 9-7. At No. 3 doubles, Roy Anderson and Travis Hutchinson hung tough but fell 8-5.
Covenant's lone win was taken at No. 2 singles by Chris Cox. Cox bested Kirk Zhao after falling in the first set 3-6, 7-6, 6-4. Matthew Harvie and O'Brien also took their matches into three sets but both were defeated.
Covenant will be back on the courts this weekend with a pair of USA South matches. The Scots host Methodist on Friday at 3:30 p.m. and North Carolina Wesleyan on Saturday at 11 a.m.
