MEMPHIS, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's tennis team capped off a three-match weekend with a 9-0 victory over Hendrix on Saturday at the Dunavant Tennis Courts in Memphis. The Scots fell in two other matches during the weekend.
Covenant (3-4) fell to Millsaps 8-1 on Friday as Matthew Harvie notched the point for the Scots with a 6-3, 6-4 win over Diego Marti-Vertiz at the top singles spot. On Saturday morning, Covenant fell to Rhodes by a 7-2 margin. Harvie again won at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 2-6, 13-11 win over Albert Vacheron. Harvie and Chris Cox combined for a tight, 8-6 win at No. 1 doubles over Andrew Morton and Sean Hogan.
In Saturday's final match against Hendrix, the Scots dominated the action. Harvie and Cox were 8-1 winners at No. 1 doubles, while Logan Hull and Micah Fox won 8-2 at the second spot over Luke Lefler and Daniel Habenicht. Connor Shimmel and Trey Wood completed the doubles sweep with an 8-4 win at No. 3.
In singles play, Cox earned a 6-0, 7-5 win at No. 1 over Karthik Garimella. Hull was a 6-1, 6-3 winner over Lefler at No. 2, while Fox took a 6-2, 6-4 win over Kristian Lenser at the third flight. The bottom half of the order also produced as Trey Wood won in three sets, 6-3, 3-6, 10-5 over Habenicht and Ben Tonkel was a 6-1, 6-1 winner over Henry Dana at No. 5. Trey Wetjen took a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 6 over Elijah Ballard.
