CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's tennis team used a sweep in doubles play to help defeat USA South foe Brevard, 6-3, on Saturday night inside the Strang-Voges Tennis Center at the McCallie School.

The match was moved indoors because of rain on Lookout Mountain.

Covenant (3-4, 3-1 USA South), which has won three straight matches, took all three points in the doubles round to build a 3-0 lead. 

Tyler Kelly and Ben Luke cruised past Brevard's Nathan Boepple and Andrew Ingram, 8-1, at the No. 3 flight for the first point of the night. At No. 2, Chris Morton and Logan Hull teamed up for an 8-4 victory against David Bumgarner and Tyler Frazee. 

At the top spot in doubles, Trey Wood and Paxton Haggerty fought off a challenge from the visiting Tornados' Tom Mittring and Tim Hengst as the Scots' duo took an 8-7 (3) victory to round out doubles play.

Covenant would then clinch the match with the first two completed singles matches. Cameron Cortman eased past Boepple in straight sets 6-0, 6-0, at No. 5 to give Covenant a 4-0 lead. Kelly then clinched the match for the Scots with his 6-0, 6-0 victory against Ingram at the No. 6 spot.

Morton collected the sixth point for Covenant with his 6-3, 6-2 decision over Bumgarner at No. 4. 

At the top singles flight, Hull battled with Mittring, who has won 14 consecutive singles matches, before falling 6-0, 6-4 to the Brevard (0-5, 0-2 USA South) senior.

Covenant will host Warren Wilson on Friday, March 15 on Lookout Mountain. First serve is set for 4 p.m.
