CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. -- The Covenant men's tennis team won a pair of matches on Saturday afternoon over Transylvania and Johnson.
Covenant won the first match of the contest over Transylvania, 6-3, at the Covenant Tennis Complex before traveling to the Strang-Voges Tennis Complex and sweeping Johnson, 9-0, to wrap up the day.
Covenant is now 5-2 on the season. The Pioneers fall to 1-5 on the year while Johnson drops to 2-6.
MATCH ONE: COVENANT 6, TRANSYLVANIA 3
The Scots took the opening match of the day over Transy, 6-3, at the Covenant Tennis Complex on Lookout Mountain.
Covenant took advantage of a short-handed Pioneer team picking up two wins by default at No. 3 doubles and No. 6 singles.
The two teams split the remaining doubles matches as Chris Morton and Ethan Gibson defeated Parker Rowton and Hunter Gregg, 8-3, at the two doubles. Transy cut the lead to one as Nick McNamee and Noah McNamee took down Logan Hull and Paxton Haggerty 8-3.
The Scots took a 3-1 lead into singles play needing only two matches to clinch and came away with three matches.
Gill Dunn swept Gregg, 6-0, 6-0, at the No. 4. Morton defeated Kaufer, 6-2, 6-3, at the five and Hull defeated Nick McNamee, 6-4, 6-3, at the one slot as Covenant claimed the victory.
At number two singles, Noah McNamee came away with a, 6-4, 7-5, victory over Gibson and Haggerty fell, 6-2, 6-4, at No. 3.
MATCH TWO: COVENANT 9, JOHNSON 0
In the second match of the day Covenant swept past Johnson, 9-0, without dropping a set at the Strang-Voges Tennis Complex on the campus of the McCallie School.
The Scots took a 3-0 lead after doubles play dropping only game in the process.
Hull and Haggerty swept Malachi Carr and Stephen Damon, 8-0, at the one while Cameron Cortman and Tristian Smallwood defeated Cade Crowe and Daniel Orahood, 8-0, at No. 3 doubles. At number two Dunn and Tyler Kelly took an 8-1 decision over Riley Reinhardt and Joe Tempest.
In singles competition, Covenant continued their dominance only dropping a game in only three of the matches.
Gibson, Morton, and Cortman came away with, 6-0, 6-0, sweeps.
Gibson swept by Carr at one singles while Morton took his sweep over Reinhardt at No. 3. Cortman breezed past Tempest without dropping a game in the four spot.
Haggerty and Kelly dropped only one game each in their matches.
Haggerty took down Damon, 6-1, 6-0, at No. 2 singles and Kelly took a, 6-0, 6-1, at the number five.
Smallwood took set number one, 6-0, from Orahood before battling to a 7-5 second set to complete the sweep.
