SEWANEE, Tenn. -- The Covenant volleyball team split a pair of matches in a tri-match at Sewanee on Saturday inside Juhan Gymnasium. The Scots fell to Centre in three sets, but Covenant rebounded from the loss to defeat Sewanee, 3-0.
The split puts Covenant at 4-3 on the year.
MATCH TWO: Covenant 3, Sewanee 0
Kelsey Carman tallied a season-high 11 kills and
Emma Kalbfleisch had 10 kills to help the Scots past Sewanee 25-21, 25-19, 25-23 in Saturday's second match.
Carman added eight digs to her team-best 11 kills, while Kalbfleisch had a pair of blocks in the victory.
Rachel Bartlett totaled 30 assists, three blocks, and nine digs.
Meriel Chupp added five kills with a .357 hitting percentage as Covenant hit .257 as a unit.
Covenant had 11 kills as a team in the opening set and never trailed before taking the 25-21 set victory. The Scots were even more efficient in the second set with 11 kills and a .300 hitting percentage to earn a 25-19 set win.
In the third, the Scots battled back in the final few points to complete the sweep. Covenant had 16 kills in the frame.
The Scots produced seven aces in the win, led by
Savannah Savage's three. Savage also led the back row with 10 digs.
Ellie Pedersen led Sewanee (3-2) with 12 kills, while Kaylee Scharfman had 20 assists and 11 digs.
MATCH ONE: Centre 3, Covenant 0
Facing a strong Centre squad, Covenant narrowly fell in each of the first two sets before the Colonels pulled away in the third to secure the sweep of the Scots.
Kyla Bailey led the Scots with seven kills, while Bartlett had 23 assists, nine digs, and three kills.
Riley Howe tallied 12 digs and
Anna Baldwin had 11 in the loss.
Covenant had a lead in the opening set and totaled 10 kills as a team, but Centre rallied back to take a 25-23 set win. Another tight set in the second also went the way of Centre as the Colonels took a 2-0 match lead with a 25-21 victory.
In the third, Centre completed the match as the Colonels opened up a double-digit lead and took a 25-14 win.
Centre (6-1) received 11 kills and 11 digs from Brooke Palmer, while Meredith Phillips had 28 assists.

Covenant will travel to Brevard, N.C., for a weekend slate of matches on Sept. 17-18. The Scots take on Meredith on Friday, Sept. 17 at 5 p.m.
