ATLANTA, Ga. - Covenant opened up its season with a trip to the Jenny McDowell Invitational at Emory. Its first of three games was against East Texas Baptist and the Scots took down the Tigers in their first-ever meeting.
INSIDE THE MATCHUP:

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- The Scots scored six of the last eight points in the first set to take a 1-0 lead.
- Rachel Bartlett ended the first set with back-to-back service aces to take the set 25-20.
- Covenant opened up a 7-2 advantage early on in the second set, behind four kills from Kyla Bailey.
- ETBU slowly scratched its way back, eventually fighting off four set points to tie the set at 24.
- The Scots responded though with a kill from Hannah Haerer then a bad set from the Tigers gave them the 26-24 set win and a 2-0 lead.
- The Tigers jumped out to a 11-5 lead in the third set and never looked back.
- Finding its rhythm, ETBU cruised to a 25-13 win in the third set, but still trailed Covenant 2-1.
- After dropping a set, the Scots found back its strong play with a 9-2 start in their favor to begin the fourth set.
- ETBU didn't quit, battling back to tie the set at 12 and going back and forth with Covenant to later put the set at 21-21.
- An attack error and two consecutive kills from Bartlett puts the Scots on match point.
- Another attack error from the Tigers clinched the set 25-23 for Covenant and a 3-1 victory.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 1-0 all-time against ETBU.
- At the net, Haerer had a career-high 10 total blocks.
- Emma Kalbfleisch and Bailey led the attack for Covenant with 16 kills and 13 kills, respectively.
- Bartlett also showed her game with 36 assists.
- In defense, Sarah Jennings had 14 digs in her first collegiate match.
UP NEXT: The Scots play two games tomorrow in Atlanta against Greensboro College and Greenville University with start times of 10:00 a.m. and 3:00 p.m.
