BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - After four weekends of baseball to begin the year, Covenant visited No. 4 Birmingham-Southern for its first midweek game of the season. Behind strong pitching, timely hitting, and making the Panthers pay for defensive mistakes, the Scots pulled off the upset.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
- Covenant took a 2-0 lead in the second inning thanks to a pair of throwing errors from BSC.
- Benjamin Johnson extended the lead in the fourth inning with a RBI infield single that scored Kolby Kimberly.
- Johnson and Sam Cecil both scored later in the inning on throwing errors to make it 5-0.
- With runners on second and third and one out for BSC, RHP Zach Barrett struck out consecutive batters swinging to end the scoring threat.
- The biggest swing of the night came from Harrison Adelgren who hit a 3-run home run in the sixth inning to put Covenant up 8-0.
- Later in the sixth inning, Kenny Mills drove in Zeke Gilbert with a RBI single to right field.
- A bases-loaded walk and a bases-loaded balk highlighted a four-run seventh inning for the Panthers to get them back in the game at 9-4.
- Only two BSC batters reached base in the eighth and ninth innings as the Scots got the win.
GAME NOTES:
- Covenant moves to 3-11 all-time against Birmingham-Southern.
- The win marks the second-highest ranked team the Scots have beaten in the NCAA era, the other being No. 1 Emory in 2017.
- The Scots outhit the Panthers 10-6.
- Errors were critical in this game with BSC having six and Covenant having just one.
- Cecil and Johnson each had two hits for the Scots.
- In his first career start, Barrett threw a shutout and took the win (5 IP, 2 H, 2 BB, 6 K, 2 HBP).
- RHP Jonathan Glover was effective closing the game for the Scots (2.1 IP, 2 H, 1 BB).
