Second Half Surge Gives Scots Win Over Eagles

LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN, Ga. – Covenant and Asbury played at Scotland Yard on Wednesday night as the Scots looked to earn a key conference win. The home side did just that thanks to a pair of goals early on in the second half.

Final: Covenant 2, Asbury 0
Records: Covenant (4-8-2, 3-2-1 CCS), Asbury (8-5-2, 4-2 CCS)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

  • Covenant came out early and found some offensive rhythm, forcing the Asbury goalkeeper into three saves in the first four minutes of the match.
  • In the ninth minute and the 19th minute, the Eagles had two looks on goal, but goalkeeper Bronwyn Kickasola made two good saves to keep the match scoreless.
  • Neither side could find the breakthrough before intermission as Covenant had an 8-6 advantage in shots at halftime.
  • Abby Eastes put Covenant ahead in the 53rd minute as she sent her shot into the back of the net after a well-placed through ball from AnnaLi Weekley on the right side of the box.
  • Two minutes later, Covenant nearly had its second goal as Weekley's shot from close range fired off the crossbar.
  • At the 57-minute mark, the Scots went ahead 2-0 thanks to an own goal after a corner kick.
  • Covenant kept pushing forward as Clara Norris found herself open at the back post before sending a shot just above the crossbar.
  • Covenant went down to 10 players for the final five minutes of the match as Autumn Biacamano picked up her second yellow card of the match, equaling a red card for the sophomore.
  • Playing a player up, Asbury mustered just one shot off target in the closing stages of the match.
