Scots Drop Five-Set Bout at Sewanee

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Covenant took on Sewanee for the second time this season in its final regular-season road match. Much like the earlier meeting on Lookout Mountain, the contest extended to five sets; however, this time it was the Tigers who prevailed.

Final: Covenant 2, Sewanee 3
Records: Covenant (18-13), Sewanee (16-10)

Sewanee seized early momentum, stringing together five of six points to build an 11-6 advantage. Despite a late push from Covenant that cut the deficit to three, the Tigers held on and closed out the first set with a 25-20 victory.

The second set remained tight throughout as neither team was able to grab the momentum. Sewanee looked to be sneaking away as they went up 18-15 before the Scots responded with a 6-0 run, capped off by a kill from Kennedy Barber, to take a three-point lead of their own. Sewanee came back to tie the set at 23-23, but a kill from Kinsley Dupree and a Sarah Jennings ace helped the Scots even the match at one-set all.

The Tigers didn't flinch after dropping the second set as they jumped out to a 17-10 lead. Covenant attempted to rally with four consecutive points, but Sewanee quickly regained control, closing the set on an 8–0 run to secure a commanding 25-14 victory.

The Scots once again came back strong in the fourth as they used a 6-0 run to go up 8-4. Covenant continued to dominate as it eventually led by as much as 10 at 23-13. The Tigers narrowed the gap, but kills from Gabby Sumrall and Barber helped secure the set 25-17 for the Scots.

In the decisive fifth set, Covenant gained an early 5-4 advantage, fueled by three kills from Delaney Stirm. However, Sewanee quickly seized control with a dominant 8-0 run that extended its lead to 12-5. Despite a determined effort from the Scots to rally, the Tigers maintained their momentum and closed out the match with a 15-8 victory.

Sewanee posted 53 kills compared to Covenant's 42, while also holding a 9–7 edge in service aces. Both teams recorded five blocks in the evenly matched defensive battle.

The Scots were led by Sumrall who totaled nine kills while hitting .368. Cali Sandhoff made an impact as her stat line included eight kills, 20 assists, and six digs. Covenant also got 15 assists from Amber Snook and seven kills from Stirm.

Covenant's defense was led by Jennings and Henley Gentry as they led the Scots in digs with 28 and 10, respectively.
