ATLANTA, Ga. -- Covenant baseball fell in both games of their doubleheader at Emory on Saturday, 15-14 and 10-1, at Chappell Park in Atlanta.
GAME ONE: Emory 15, Covenant 14
Covenant came back and took a 14-10 lead going into the sixth inning, but could not hold it as Emory scored five unanswered to take game one.
Roby McClarnon (2-for-6, RBI),
Ryan MacLellan (2-for-5, three RBIs),
Sam Cecil (2-for-5, two RBIs),
Elliott Eastin (3-for-4, three RBIs), and
Daniel Counts (2-for-4, RBI) notched multi-hit efforts, while
Brady Daniell threw 2.2 scoreless innings to wrap up the game.
After going down 6-2 at the end of the first inning, the Covenant offense got to work, putting together a four-run third inning, highlighted by a Counts solo shot, to tie it up at six.
The Eagles promptly added four runs to their ledger in the bottom of the third, only to see the Scots score eight between the fourth and fifth innings to take a 14-10 lead. MacLellan would hammer a three-run shot to right in the fifth to highlight this rally.
However, Emory had one final rally in them, scoring five runs in the sixth and holding on the rest of the way.
Jonathan Glover (1-1) was handed the loss for Covenant, while Owen Stone (1-0) earned the win. Paul Fine (SV, 1) fired the final two scoreless innings to get the save.
Eagles' shortstop Zach Hanson paced the offense with his 4-for-6, five RBI day.
GAME TWO: Emory 10, Covenant 1 (7 innings)
Covenant managed six hits, but could not splice together a big rally to keep pace with the hot-hitting Emory Eagles, falling 10-1.
Cole Akins led the way offensively with his pair of hits, while
Hudson Couch drove in
Matthew Ianniello for the lone Scot run.
The Eagles (7-4) got started early again, going up 4-0 by the end of the fourth.Â
In the fifth, the Scots (6-4) found a way to bring a run across, getting help from an Emory error to provide the opportunity for Couch to capitalize with his RBI single to right.
That would be all though, as Covenant only had two baserunners the rest of the way.
James Lee (0-1) was handed the loss for the Scots, while Adam Geller (2-1) gained the win. Freshman
Aidan Suitor made his collegiate debut in relief in this game, throwing 0.2 innings, with both outs being recorded via strikeout.
