Box Score 2 ORLANDO, Fla. -- Covenant women's tennis split their Tuesday slate, falling 4-3 to Anderson and winning 6-1 over Northwestern, in Orlando.
MATCH TWO: Covenant 6, Northwestern (Minn.) 1
The Scots put forth a dominant showing in match two, getting a 6-1 win in their second match of the day.Â
The dominance began in doubles play, as Covenant took all three matches. No. 1 tandem
Maisie Tanchanpongs and
Estee Verdery took down Northwestern's Hayashi and Langridge 6-1. At No. 2 doubles,
Katie Cummings and
Christina English defeated Ross and Clarke 6-2, and then
Landry McKinney and
Ora Hall beat Hyttsten and Cimenski 6-2 to sweep the doubles slate.
With a 1-0 lead in tow, Tanchanpongs beat Hayashi to extend the lead to 2-0 at No. 1 singles, 6-1, 6-1. Verdery fell at No. 2 to Langridge 6-3, 6-2 to make it 2-1.Â
The Scots cruised from there though, as McKinney came through in a comeback effort, 1-6, 6-0, 10-6 over Ross, followed by Cummings' 6-3, 6-3 victory at No. 4 singles Hyttsten. English subsequently took care of business at No. 5 singles, winning 6-2, 6-4, and then Hall rounded out the slate with a 6-1, 6-0 win at No. 6 singles.Â
MATCH ONE: Anderson (Ind.) 4, Covenant 3
Covenant could not come back from an early deficit, falling 4-3 in match one to Anderson.
The Ravens got on the board first by securing the doubles point, as No. 2 team
Katie Cummings and
Christina English fell to Cunningham and Oberle, 7-6, and No. 3 tandem
Ora Hall and
Landry McKinney were defeated 7-5 by Hosier and Patterson.
Maisie Tanchanpongs and
Estee Verdery did get a win at No. 1, over Frantz and Torretn, however.
Tanchanpongs then took care of her opponent, Frantz, 7-5, 6-2, to knot things up at one apiece, but Verdery was defeated 6-2, 6-2 by Torrent at No. 2, McKinney 6-1, 6-2 by Hosier at No. 3, and Cummings 6-0, 6-4 by Cunningham to clinch the match for Anderson.
That did not deter English and Hall, though, as English dominated Maiden 6-2, 6-2, at No. 5 singles and Hall battled valiantly with Oberle, emerging victorious 7-5, 6-2.Â
