RALEIGH, N.C. -- The Covenant women's soccer team saw their unbeaten streak snapped as they fell to Meredith 3-1 on Saturday afternoon in USA South action.
The loss is Covenant's first since Sept. 10, a span of four matches, and drops the Lady Scots to 5-5-1 (3-1 USA South). Meredith moves to 6-3-1 and keeps them unbeaten in conference play at 4-0-1.
A day after a 12-goal outburst against Mary Baldwin, Covenant was limited to just one goal against Meredith keeper Jaisa Loch, scored by Rachel Bernard after the Avenging Angels had already built a 3-0 lead.
Covenant was outshot 16-7 overall, and 7-2 in shots on goal.
Meredith struck early when they scored in the 16th minute and had a 2-0 halftime lead. Both goals were scored by Meredith McCarty. The lead was stretched to 3-0 in the 62nd minute when McCarty assisted on Megan Amanatides' goal.
Bernard brought the Lady Scots a little closer when she took a feed from Ruth Terry and scored her goal in the 82nd minute. The goal is Bernard's first of the season.
Covenant goalkeeper Lucy Johnson made four saves, while her counterpart Loch made one.
The Lady Scots will be back in action on Wednesday night when they take on Maryville at 7 p.m. in Maryville, Tenn.
