LOOKOUT MOUNTAIN -- The Covenant men's tennis team officially opened its West Division title defense on Saturday with a 9-0 victory over Brevard in the USA South opener at the Covenant Tennis Complex.
Covenant (6-4, 1-0 USA South) extends its USA South regular season win streak to seven dating back to spring 2019.
The Scots faced little resistance from Brevard (3-11, 0-1 USA South) in the match as Covenant cruised through doubles and singles to claim the shutout victory.
Austin Dreslinski and
Solomon Crouch won their sixth match of the year at the top flight in doubles with an 8-3 victory over Ethan McGee and James Srsich.
Gill Dunn and
Tyler Kelly combined for an 8-1 win at No. 2 over Devin Horton and Bryce Bernitt, while
Camden Lashley and
Andrew Graham took care of Peter Bresko and JaMarcus Walker, 8-2, at the No. 3 flight.
The tightest matches in singles play were at the top two flights. Back on the court,
Ben Luke toppled McGee 7-5, 7-5 at the No. 1 position.
Ethan Gibson also faced a strong test from Bryce Bernitt in the opening set before cruising to a 7-5, 6-1 victory at No. 2.
The final four spots were dominated by the Scots.
Cameron Cortman moved up to the third line and took down Horton 6-1, 6-1, while
Chris Morton was a 6-3, 6-1 winner over Srsich at No. 4.
Jeb Barnette captured a 6-2, 6-0 win over Walker at No. 5 before
David Netherton completed the sweep with his 6-0, 6-4 win over Brian Seon at No. 6.
