MONTGOMERY, Ala. -- Covenant baseball's comeback effort came up short in game one of their series against Huntingdon, falling 9-4 in Montgomery on Friday evening.
Nate Jones had a banner day at the leadoff spot, going 3-for-5 with an RBI, while
Daniel Counts added a pair of RBIs.
Behind 6-0 entering the seventh inning, the Scots were looking for answers against the Hawks' Jacob McFarling (4-2).
They started to find a groove, as Huntingdon pulled McFarling after allowing his first run in the seventh on a Jones RBI single. With two outs,
Sam Cecil started the rally with an RBI walk, and then Counts singled home two more to trim the deficit to 6-4.
Those would be the only runs scored by Covenant the rest of the game though, as the Hawks' bullpen held the lead while their offense added three more runs.
James Lee (1-2) got the loss for the Scots, striking out two over his six innings.
Jay Davidson went 4-for-4 with three RBIs, while Brent Cadenhead drove in four runs.
